The Projector

1- Find an example of something you would like to try in your own teaching.

As a matter of fact, the projector plays an influential role in the educational process anywhere. It is a very effective set via which teachers are capable of enriching their students' minds with erudition and encyclopedism. That is the reason why I would like to know some information about the projector to be able to face any technical problem that may encounter me. I am thinking of purchasing a projector to help me explain lessons at my classes. Selecting a projector is likely to be a daunting task and there is more to consider than just'' How much does it cost?''
Things to be considered:
a) What is piture reliability?

Piture reliability is how the image of the projector will look over time. Projectors that utilize DLP are virtually immune to what is called ''Color Decay''.

b) How much brightness is enough?

Brightness is measured in Lumens. Front projectors for the education market start around 1,000 lumens and can reach an output of more than 2,500 lumens. As a matter of course, we, as teachers, should put into our consideration two major factors when determining how much brightness we need. These factors are: room light and audience size.

The following is a general guide to follow for selecting brightness level:

a) low light: 1,000 lumens
b) some light: 1,500 lumens ( minimum for larger presentations)
c) bright light: 2,000 lumens ( ideal for large audience)

2- What would be your challenges?

1- Lack of knowledge with regard to the different types of projectors.
2- My school has one overhead projector only.
3- It is out of order from time to time.
4- The number of students is big.
5- Students' lack of awareness.
6- Being interested in multi-media and being deprived of using it whnever I like that.

3- What would be your opportunities to make this happen?

1- Mastering the use of audio-viual sets.
2- Interacting with my mentor teacher at North East High School.
3- Making students aware of the importance of using multi-media devices.
4- I am thinking of buying either a new or a second hand projector.

Aladdin,

I think using the projector in your teaching is an excellent idea. It really sounds like you are motivated to learn more about projectors and how they can be used in your classroom. I found your discussion of things to consider illuminating!
